Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister hints at unanswered questions after Portugal retirement

Katia Aveiro has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to retire from international football by praising her brother’s career while suggesting that some details surrounding the move may become clearer in the future.
In a lengthy message posted on her Instagram story, Aveiro wrote: “I could say a lot, but time will certainly reveal everything. Until then, I will say this to you: you are great, a giant and a legend.”
Aveiro, the sister of the Al-Nassr captain, said she felt immense pride as Ronaldo’s time with Portugal appeared to come to an end.
“Today, the world bids you farewell with the Portugal national team,” she wrote. “But I, as your sister, look back and feel a pride that is too great for my chest to contain.
“I know the battles you fought, everything you gave to our country and all that you built throughout your career.”
She also credited Ronaldo with changing the course of his own career and influencing the fortunes of his country.
“You changed the course of your destiny, and you took Portugal with you,” she added. “Yes, it is a sad day, but stages come to an end so that others can begin.
“Time is the judge, and if there is still something that needs an answer, perhaps things will become clearer tomorrow.”
Aveiro did not explain what she meant by matters still requiring answers, but the comments prompted questions about whether there were undisclosed details behind Ronaldo’s international retirement.
She ended her message with an emotional tribute to her brother, stressing that his achievements were greater than any farewell.
“Your honour and the path you followed are greater than any goodbye,” she wrote. “This picture may not be of high quality, but it has enormous importance to me because it preserves part of our history.
“It always reminds me that before you were Cristiano Ronaldo, admired by the world, you were and will always be my brother and my little boy.
“I love you, and I am endlessly proud of you.”
The message was accompanied by information referring to Portugal, the UEFA Nations League – Path A, and a fixture against Denmark dated 14 November 2026.
However, Aveiro offered no further explanation of her reference to issues that could become clearer later, leaving the meaning of that part of her message open to interpretation.
