Nigeria-Eligible star shines for Reims, Moffi’s goal not enough to hurt PSG in France
By Wale Mustapha
Matchday 14 of the French Ligue 1 came with mixed feelings for Nigerian footballers plying their trades with how they fared for their respective clubs.
One of them who will be happy was Folarin Balogun who still leave the door open with playing for Nigeria.
The product of Arsenal academy has been in fine form with Reims since he joined them on loan this season. He was instrumental to his side’s 1-0 home win on Sunday over Moses Simon’s Nantes.
Balogun converted a late penalty for Reims to seal the match points against a 10 man Nantes and extended their season’s unbeaten run to six matches.
Simon on the other hand had less impact on the match despite handed a starting position and was subbed off midway through the second half.
Reims are now 11th on the log with 16 points from 14 games while Nantes are just a point above the drop zone.
It was more of the same situation for Lorient and duo of Innocent Bonke and Terem Moffi who suffered a late defeat in the hands of leaders, PSG.
Terem Moffi who is making a return to the team after spell on the sideline thought he had rescued point for Lorient as he canceled out Neymar’s early goal for the Parisien.
Portuguese defender, Pereira Danilo broke the heart of home fans as he jumped highest to head a corner.
Both Moffi and Bonke as well as Lorient pushed for a late equalizer but Gigi Donarrumma in goal for PSG was handful for the hosts as his heroics secured the match points for PSG.
Lorient still holding on to an European spots despite the loss with 27 points from 14 games.
