‘I’m not Alexander Isak replacement’ — Sadiq Umar aims to create Real Sociedad feat
By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria international forward, Umar Sadiq has revealed that he doesn’t consider himself a replacement for Newcastle sensational forward Alexander Isak.
The striker transferred to Real Sociedad from UD Almería during the previous summer transfer window for around €20.00 million after Isak moved to Newcastle United.
Isak had spent three seasons with Real Sociedad in the city of San Sebastián, and in his 132 appearances for the club, he scored a total of 44 goals and provided 8 assists, before a record deal of €70,000,000 move to the Premier League side.
On the other hand, Sadiq helped Almería gained promotion last season, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists in 36 league games and recorded 43 goals and 19 assists in 84 games across all competitions for Almeria overall.
With fans’ expectations high on Sadiq to fill the void left by their goal poacher, the 26-year-old Nigerian claims he is not distracted by the strain of filling the void left by the Swedish striker, having come to be  at the Reale Arena.
His performance for UD Almería ticked all their boxes as Sociedad looked to replace Isak and the 26-year-old then announced his arrival scoring for Real Sociedad on his debut against Atletico Madrid in their 1-1 La Liga draw.
On scoring three goals in five games for Imanol Alguacil’s team, the Super Eagles forward suffered a mind boggling injury against Getafe that has kept him on the sidelines since September and the former AS Roma insists he did not move to join the white-blue as a replacement for the former Borussia Dortmund forward.
“The way we inside football see it is different from the way other people outside football see it,” he told The Hindsight Podcast.
“I don’t see it as a replacement or a big money transfer, and will now start giving myself pressure.
“I see it as a normal transfer. I came here to play good football, to help the team and to show myself.”
