Regina Otu opens goal account as Saint Etienne pick first point against Montpelier

Nigeria international Regina Otu scored her first goal of the season as she helped her Saint Etienne to a 1-1 draw against Montpelier in the French D1 Arkema encounter on Saturday.

Newly promoted Saint Etienne needed to get into the fray after a 2-0 loss to Stade de Reims on the opening weekend of the season.

They got to a flying start as French forward, Elise Legrout set up Otu for the opening goal of the encounter in the 14th minute.

It took a 69th-minute equaliser from French defender, Maelys Mpome to even the scoreline as both sides shared spoils at the Stade Salif Keita, Saint Etienne.

Otu played for the duration of the match helping her team pick their first point of be campaign and scoring her club’s first goal of the season.

Her compatriot and goalkeeper, Yewande Balogun was an unused substitute for Saint Etienne as Maryne Gignoux-Soulier started in goal.

The win didn’t change Saint Etienne’s position on the table as the team occupy the 12th position, which is the last spot on the log with a point after two games.

The club in Green has a tough clash against PSG in their next match on October 6, 2023.
