FIFA Council member Amaju Pinnick has arrived in Accra, Ghana’s capital as part of a strong FIFA delegation for the forthcoming Elective Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Tamale.

The GFA Elective Congress holds on Thursday, October 5, 2023 and the former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) arrived in Accra on Monday and held meetings with Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif (Hon.) and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture Kwaku Agyenim-Boateng (Hon).

Pinnick will join the Director of Member Associations for Africa at FIFA, Gelson Fernandes, Silmara Sousa, Development Program Coordinator, FIFA Member Associations Africa, and Ahmed Harraz, Senior MA Governance Services Manager, FIFA MA Governance as part of the FIFA team for the election congress.

The team, which has already been assisting the GFA Elections Committee, will have final engagements while in Ghana before the Congress.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and West Africa Zone B (WAFU B) have also indicated that they will be sending dignitaries to ensure a successful GFA Congress on October 5, 2023.

Amaju Melvin Pinnick was President of the Nigeria Football Federation from 2014 to 2022 and was also the First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from September 2018 to July 2019, and a member of the Organising Committee for FIFA competitions. He currently serves on the FIFA Executive Council after succeeding Kwasi Nyantakyi in 2018.

The current GFA President is Kurt Okraku. The GFA announced the exclusive list for its presidential election on Monday, August 4, 2023, confirming that the incumbent Okraku, and the former GFA vice president, George Afriyie, have successfully submitted their forms for the eminent role.

The forthcoming election showdown promises an engaging duel between Okraku and Afriyie.

Their familiarity stems from the previous election in 2019, where Okraku secured victory over Akriyie in a closely contested race.
