Nigeria head coach, Jose Peseiro has explained why he loves the slim wins the national team have recorded in the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The West African nation had only a shot on target in the 1-0 victory against Guinea Bissau and just three goals in three matches during their group stage outing.
The development as saw Super Eagles face lot of criticism but the former Saudi Arabia manager insists he is focused on picking the best team to win matches and stressed his preference for wins over high goals scoring.
“I have the obligation to do what is right for my team, pick the best formation and how best we can win games,” Peseiro told the media.
“The most important thing is for my players to believe in our strategy. They believe in what we are doing and have done well so far.
“If you remember at the last AFCON, Senegal didn’t score too many goals in the group stage.
“We are not scoring too many goals but we are winning. I prefer to continue like this and reach the final.”
The Super Eagles will square up against perennial rivals Cameroon in the round of 16 of the AFCON at the Felix stadium, Abidjan on Saturday, January 27.
