Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has labelled his teammate Ademola Lookman the “star boy” highlighting him as a threat to the opponent.
Iwobi has been impressed with Lookman’s performance for the Super Eagles at AFCON 2023 as the 26-year-old has been putting up a scintillating display in Cote d’Ivoire with three goals and one assist in five matches so far.
With his lone goal against Angola in the quarter-final, the former Everton forward became the fourth Nigerian to have scored three or more goals in the knockout stages of a single AFCON edition after Odion Ighalo in 2019, Austin Okocha in 2004, and Rashidi Yekini in 1994.
The Serie A star currently leads the charts for chances created, assists, and goals for the Super Eagles in Cote d’Ivoire, and Iwobi is proud of him as they prepare for the semifinal against South Africa.
“Playing with him, you appreciate him more,” Iwobi said per report from the Athletic.
“He is a threat all the time,” he added. “He can receive the ball between the lines or make a run in behind.
“Look at him, the star boy.”
