Nigeria assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong has concurred with Austin Jay-Jay Okocha that the team lack Superstars ahead of the final of the Africa Cup of Nations clash with hosts Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.
Recall that NigeriaFootball.ng reported that Okocha faulted the absence of superstars in the current Super Eagles claiming they are not as talented as his sets.
Despite this, Nigeria is now in the final for the first time in 11 years where they will battle host nation and two-time winners, Côte d’Ivoire for their fourth crown, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
The stand-in team captain, who has scored two goals so far revealed the secret behind the country’s successful run at the tournament so far, attributing it to the strong team unity, as a driving force in the quest for AFCON glory.
“We are all in this together and as soon as we arrived here in the camp, I don’t think anyone thinks about what club they play for. It’s a real brotherhood going on,” Ekong as quoted by Pulse Sports.
“We don’t have any superstars in our team, I think before there’s been generations with Nigeria that they’ve had a lot of players playing in big teams.
“However much that’s helped the team it might have also been a bit difficult because you have different agendas maybe and you have to take into account a lot of different players and different mentalities.”
