Ajax have Arokodare purchase option and salary deal in place, says Cruijff

Ajax already have the financial terms prepared to sign Tolu Arokodare permanently from Wolverhampton Wanderers, technical director Jordi Cruijff has confirmed.

The Nigerian forward joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolves in July 2026, with the agreement including an option for the Amsterdam club to buy him.

Cruijff said Ajax would not have to reopen negotiations with Arokodare or his representatives if they choose to activate that clause.

“We have a purchase option in his contract. Everything is already arranged, including the salary,” Cruijff said on Ziggo Sport’s Rondo programme, as quoted by Ajaxshowtime.

The 25-year-old’s move to Ajax was announced on 29 July after a difficult 2025/26 campaign at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were relegated from the Premier League.

Arokodare scored six goals in 38 appearances for the English club before leaving for the Netherlands. He has since made a strong start in Amsterdam, becoming an important attacking option and scoring in both domestic and European competitions.

His latest strike came in Ajax’s 1-0 win against AZ Alkmaar. That goal took his total for the club to 10 goals and three assists in 15 appearances.

Cruijff also rejected the suggestion that Ajax would face considerable difficulty completing a permanent transfer because of Arokodare’s transfer value.

“I don’t think so,” he said when asked whether the Nigerian would be difficult to sign permanently because of the size of his transfer fee.

The Ajax technical director praised the striker’s rapid adjustment, particularly given that he arrived from a team relegated from the Premier League.

Cruijff said Arokodare had responded positively to the change in circumstances and had shown qualities beyond his goalscoring.

“I don’t really want to go into individual names, but he is doing well. When we signed him, there was a lot of talk about us getting him from a relegated team. He has settled in well, has a good mentality, and is a team player. We hope he just keeps going,” he said.

Arokodare’s form has therefore given Ajax an early indication of what he could offer on a permanent basis, while the club already have a purchase option and an agreed salary in place should they decide to proceed.
