Bayelsa United ready for NNL campaign after prolific pre-season, says Maikaba

Bayelsa United technical adviser Abdul Maikaba says his side are fully prepared to begin their bid for an immediate return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Prosperity Boys head into the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season in confident mood after completing their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 victory over Ogunbor United FA of Sapele at Southern Delta University in Ozoro, Delta State.
The result capped an impressive build-up for Bayelsa United, who were relegated from the top flight last season and are determined to secure promotion at the first opportunity.
Maikaba was particularly pleased with the team’s attacking output, having scored 35 goals in 10 pre-season matches.
“The boys have responded very well,” Maikaba said after the win.
“Scoring 35 goals in 10 games shows that we are creating and converting our chances. While we still need to fine-tune a few areas, overall, I am very satisfied with our progress.”
The coach believes the squad’s effectiveness in the final third provides a strong foundation as they prepare to transfer their pre-season form into competitive football.
Bayelsa United will open their NNL campaign against Abia Comets of Umuahia on 8 November 2026, with the match scheduled to take place at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
