Al-Qadsiyah consider move for Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi

Super Eagles and FC Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi could be on course for a move to Saudi Arabia, with Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiyah reported to be monitoring the Nigeria international.

Sanusi’s future at FC Porto has come under scrutiny as the Portuguese club attempts to negotiate a new contract with the 28-year-old. However, discussions have stalled because of the player’s wage demands, according to BSNSports.com.ng.

The defender is entering the final year of his current agreement, leaving FC Porto facing a decision over whether to pursue a transfer fee now or risk losing him without compensation next summer.

That situation has attracted the attention of Al-Qadsiyah, who are understood to be following developments closely. The Saudi Arabian club could make an approach for Sanusi as they assess the possibility of adding an experienced Nigerian full-back to their squad.

FC Porto remain keen to keep the player, but the unresolved contract talks have created uncertainty around his position at the club. Unless an agreement can be reached, the Portuguese side could consider offers for Sanusi rather than allow his contract to run down.

Sanusi joined FC Porto in 2020 and has since won domestic honours with the Portuguese giants. His time at the club has established him as an experienced player at both domestic and international level, while he continues to represent Nigeria with the Super Eagles.

A move to Al-Qadsiyah would take Sanusi to the Saudi Pro League, although there has been no confirmation that a formal offer has yet been made. For now, the club is monitoring his circumstances while FC Porto weigh up whether retaining him or selling him would be the best outcome.

The central issue remains the player’s contract situation. FC Porto’s preference is to secure Sanusi’s future, but the gap created by his wage demands has prevented the two sides from reaching an agreement. With the final year of his deal approaching, Al-Qadsiyah’s interest could add further pressure to the negotiations.

Sanusi’s current position therefore leaves all three parties with decisions to make. The defender may have the opportunity to continue with FC Porto, where he has played since 2020 and collected domestic honours, or consider a new chapter in Saudi Arabia. FC Porto, meanwhile, must determine whether to accept a potential offer from Al-Qadsiyah or continue trying to agree a new contract with the Nigerian left-back.
