By Dayo Awoniyi
Nasarawa United secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Heartland FC in their Nigeria Premier Football League match-day 35 encounter at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe, on Sunday afternoon.
The win, courtesy of Anas Yusuf’s 16th goal of the campaign, has brightened the Solid Miners’ survival hopes with three matches left to play.
The solitary goal was scored in the 44th minute of the first half, with Anas Yusuf’s solo effort sailing past Heartland’s goalkeeper, Kelvin Ogunga, after being found through by Ugochukwu Leonard.
Despite having a second goal disallowed for offside in the 79th minute, Nasarawa United held firm to secure a fourth straight home win.
Coach Salisu Yusuf expressed his pride in the team’s effort, stating, “This win is a significant morale booster for our team, and we are proud of every player’s effort.
“With three matches remaining before the League comes to an end, we are focused on taking it one game at a time and pushing for every point possible.”
The win catapults Nasarawa United to 13th position on the log with 46 points, while Heartland’s woes are further compounded, leaving them locked in 17th position with 42 points.
As a reward for their heroics, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, presented the team with a cash gift of ₦150,000, as part of his personal support for the team.
Nasarawa United’s journey to survival continues as they prepare for their next challenge against already relegated Lobi Stars in Enugu on May 7, 2025.
Before then, the team will face Abakaliki United in the Quarter Final of the 2025 President Federation’s Cup on May 3, 2025, in Benin City.
