Ashleigh Plumptre thrilled with return to national team

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria defender, Ashleigh Plumptre is happy to be part of Justine Madugu’s squad for this month’s friendly match against France.

The Al-Ittihad Saudi Club defender is part of the 20-player roster for the upcoming friendly, making her return to the Super Falcons fold since the Paris 2024 Olympics Qualifiers as she missed the women’s football tournament due to injury.

The friendly also provides the opportunity for the former Leicester City player to test the turf of France since she couldn’t make the Olympics.

“Feels great to have made the Super Falcons list for the upcoming international games,” Plumptre posted on social media.

“Good opportunity to fight for the badge again 💯
Proudly Nigerian 💪.”

Plumptre was part of the national team squad for two of the last three tournaments.

She played her first tournament for the Super Falcons since changing allegiance from England at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

This was followed by the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
