Atletico Madrid insider criticises Ademola Lookman after Bayern Munich defeat

Ademola Lookman was unable to make an attacking impact as Atletico Madrid lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The Nigeria international entered the match as a second-half substitute, replacing Alexander Sørloth shortly after the hour mark. It was the fourth time this season that Lookman had been introduced from the bench.
Manager Diego Simeone brought on the former Atalanta winger in an attempt to add greater threat to Atletico’s attack, but he finished the game with only 20 touches and no shots.
Bayern took control after the interval when Lennart Karl opened the scoring in the 54th minute. Konrad Laimer then added a second goal in the 74th minute to complete the victory.
Lookman has produced important moments in the Champions League this season, scoring against Manchester United and setting up a goal in Atletico’s draw with Stuttgart. However, he was unable to influence the contest against Bayern Munich.
Writing in his player ratings for AS, club insider Jesus Colino questioned the Nigerian’s contribution in the final third.
“Lacking confidence, he couldn’t manage a single dribble and barely contributed in a few runs down the left,” Colino said.
The performance marks a quieter showing for a player who has otherwise shown signs of attacking quality in Europe. Lookman was brought on with Atletico trailing but could not help the Spanish side find a way back into the match.
Despite his lack of impact at club level in this game, Lookman is expected to be included in the Super Eagles squad for their upcoming 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania.
