Nigeria international, Victor Boniface has had a successful surgery following his injury-forced early departure from the Nigeria’s camp for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

In a post on their official X account, Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the Nigerian safely went under the knife.

The Super Eagles suffered a muscle-tendon injury on international duty at the Nigeria’s training camp in Abu Dhabi and has been replaced by OGC Nice’s Terem Moffi.

The Nigerian forward immediately left camp and returned to his club, where he was scheduled for surgery in Berlin.

The club had earlier announced that the Super Eagle would be out of action until April as the 23-year-old is expected to return to Leverkusen in a few days, where he will begin his rehabilitation immediately.

With 16 goals and eight assists in 23 appearances for Xabi Alonso’s side, Boniface has established himself as a key player to watch in this tournament.

Leverkusen are four points clear of record champions, Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table, with Boniface playing a pivotal role in that.

“Victor #Boniface was successfully operated on today in Berlin.

The striker will return to Leverkusen later this week to start his rehabilitation process. 💪🇳🇬🦅
