FG Redeems House, $100,000 Promise to Super Falcons Ahead of 2026 WAFCON

The Federal Government has fulfilled its promise of a house and $100,000 for each member of the Super Falcons following their triumph at the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The development comes amid concerns that the delay in redeeming the pledge could negatively affect the team’s morale and preparations for the 2026 WAFCON, which is set to begin in Morocco in the coming days.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, disclosed on Friday in Glasgow, the venue of the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games, that the players and members of the coaching crew will receive the keys to their houses this week.

“I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present the keys to the houses that His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Their $100,000 has also been paid into their various bank accounts. We delayed the presentation of the keys because we wanted the players to receive them together. I believe this will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON, which kicks off in Morocco in a few days,” Dikko said.

Earlier this week, members of the Nigerian women’s national team expressed concern that the Federal Government’s failure to fulfill its promises could undermine the Super Falcons’ ambition of winning a record-extending 11th WAFCON title and securing qualification for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.
