Cardiff City appeal fails over Gabriel Osho red card

Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy says the club’s appeal against Gabriel Osho’s red card has been rejected, leaving the Super Eagles centre-back suspended for the club’s forthcoming matches.
Osho was dismissed with seven minutes remaining of Cardiff’s 2-2 Championship draw with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. The former Auxerre defender was shown a red card after a reckless challenge on Middlesbrough substitute Will Lankshear.
Cardiff believed there were sufficient grounds to overturn the decision and allow Osho to remain available for selection. However, their appeal was unsuccessful, meaning the defender will miss the club’s upcoming fixture against Birmingham City among the games covered by his suspension.
Barry-Murphy said Cardiff had challenged the decision because they felt they had a strong case. He also criticised other refereeing decisions from the match, including an incident involving Jack Moylan.
“We appealed it because we felt like we had a good case,” Barry-Murphy said.
“Certain things in that game didn’t go our way. Jack Moylan was through on goal and was pulled down.
“The feedback from the assessor was he clipped his own heels and we explained that was because he was pulled by the defender. But, it is what it is. We can’t control it. We have to look to the next game now.”
The failed appeal is a setback for Cardiff as they attempt to maintain their momentum in the Championship. Osho has become an important member of Barry-Murphy’s squad since joining the club.
He played a key role for Cardiff City last season as they secured promotion back to the Championship from League One.
His performances have also established him as a significant part of Cardiff City’s plans this campaign. The defender is expected to return once he has completed his suspension.
