Inter Lagos coach warns ‘core details’ must improve to avoid NPFL relegation

Inter Lagos interim head coach Olusanjo Olutayo says his newly promoted side must correct fundamental flaws in their performances if they are to avoid relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The warning comes before their fixture against Kun Khalifat, with Inter Lagos bottom of the table after a difficult opening to the campaign.

Olutayo believes the team’s problems are not simply a matter of creating opportunities, but of failing to make them count and lacking important elements in their overall approach.

“We don’t need to have 15 chances with zero goals. That’s relegation form,” he told the club’s media.

“Core details are missing, and that has to change,” he added.

Inter Lagos have won only one of their nine league matches so far, leaving them with an urgent need to improve their results and begin moving away from the relegation zone.

Olutayo’s comments highlight the pressure on the club as they prepare for another opportunity to turn their season around. The interim coach has made clear that greater efficiency in front of goal and improved attention to basic aspects of play will be required against Kun Khalifat.

The Lagos-based side’s position at the foot of the standings reflects their poor start, while the lack of victories has increased the importance of every forthcoming league match.
