CAS to hear Senegal appeal over 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear Senegal’s appeal against the decision that awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco, with the case scheduled for 8 October in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The dispute follows a final which ended with Senegal winning 1-0. However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) subsequently ruled that Senegal had lost the match by withdrawal and recorded Morocco as 3-0 winners.
The Senegalese Football Federation appealed against that decision on 25 March 2026. It is asking CAS to overturn CAF’s ruling and declare Senegal the champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAS confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday that the hearing would take place at its headquarters in Lausanne. The court said the parties had not agreed to an expedited process, meaning the case will follow the standard timetable set out in its regulations.
No request was made for a public hearing, so the proceedings will be held behind closed doors. The hearing is due to begin at 09:30 and is expected to finish in the afternoon.
CAS also stressed that the final ruling will not be issued on the day of the hearing. Once the session has concluded, the arbitration panel will begin its deliberations, but no date has yet been set for the decision.
The court cautioned against the circulation of inaccurate information about the case online, saying that official details would come only through CAS channels.
Arbitration panel
Representatives of the Senegalese Football Federation and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation are expected to attend the hearing in person in Lausanne. CAF will be represented by its lawyers.
The three-member CAS panel will be chaired by Gerald Simon of France, alongside Luigi Fumagalli of Italy and Ulrich Haas of Germany.
“The parties have agreed that the proceedings will be conducted in French,” CAS said. It added that any further announcement concerning the case would be published on its website.
The outcome could determine whether the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations becomes the first title in the competition’s history to be decided through a legal process. The final was followed by tensions and a series of controversial incidents, leaving the championship unresolved pending the CAS proceedings.
