Chiquinho Conde Emphasises Tactical Flexibility as Mozambique Prepare for Super Eagles Test

Mozambique head coach Chiquinho Conde has reiterated his side’s commitment to their footballing philosophy while stressing the importance of tactical flexibility ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations knockout clash against Nigeria.
Conde revealed that the Mambas will not be rigid in their approach, noting that his team is prepared to adapt systems and shapes depending on the flow of the game and the opposition.
“We will embrace our ideas and play against our opponents,” the former Portugal international said. “It could be 4-3-3 or different on different occasions.”
The Mozambican tactician also outlined the core principles guiding his coaching approach, placing emphasis on character, composure and balance between defence and attack.
“My principle is to show character, defend well, and attack better,” Conde explained. “We have fantastic attacking players who can decide a match at any time.”
Conde added that smooth transitions will be key if Mozambique are to trouble a strong Nigerian side, while urging his players to remain calm and express themselves without fear.
“We must have constructive transitions and finish the game well. The players will be calm, with no pressure. They shouldn’t be too scared or try to do things beyond themselves,” he said.
Mozambique are bidding to make further history in their first-ever appearance in the AFCON knockout stages, while Nigeria arrive as one of the tournament favourites following an impressive group-stage showing. Conde’s comments reflect a blend of respect for the Super Eagles and belief in his own team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
