NFF Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Empowerment as FIFA Workshop for Female Football Administrators Begins

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women in football with the commencement of a three-day FIFA capacity-building workshop for female football administrators in Abuja.

Declaring the workshop open on Friday, NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi MON, said the Federation, under the leadership of President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the capacity of women in football and promote the development of the girl-child.

Delivering the goodwill message of the NFF President, Sanusi urged participants to remain focused throughout the programme and ensure that the knowledge gained is translated into meaningful action within Nigeria’s football ecosystem.

He welcomed FIFA representatives and other facilitators, including Professor Mariam Suleiman of Ahmadu Bello University and NFF Executive Committee member, Ms Aisha Falode, describing their presence as vital to improving the standard of women’s football administration in the country.

“The present NFF administration headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON is very passionate about women’s empowerment. We are delighted to have resource persons here to help improve the capacity of our women football administrators,” Sanusi said.

He described the workshop as both timely and significant, stressing that its success would be measured by the practical application of the lessons learned by participants. According to him, effective leadership, professionalism and positive conduct in football administration are key indicators of the programme’s impact.

Sanusi highlighted previous initiatives undertaken by the Federation to advance women’s football, including the CAF D Coaching Course, the women-only CAF C Licence Coaching Course and the recent WAFU B Women Administrators Programme.

The FIFA-supported workshop is designed to equip female football administrators with contemporary knowledge and skills in governance, competition management, marketing and the overall development of women’s football. It forms part of FIFA’s broader commitment to strengthening the capacity of its Member Associations to grow the women’s game at every level.

Also present at the opening ceremony were NFF Director of Media and Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire; Director of Competitions and workshop coordinator, Ms Ruth David; and Deputy Head of Member Associations, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar.

The workshop features presentations from FIFA Women’s Technical Experts Thubaelihle Sibanda and Candy Setlhoko, alongside Ms Aisha Falode, Professor Mariam Suleiman, Dr Anthonia Uwa and Mr Mohammed Ameenu.

Participants include representatives of the Nigeria Women Premier League, the female secretaries of the Nasarawa, Lagos and Yobe State Football Associations, Dr Maryam Nasko of the National Institute for Sports, and 15 members of staff of the Nigeria Football Federation.
