Club Brugge close in on Bayern Munich winger Wisdom Mike in €5m deal

Club Brugge have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich to sign winger Wisdom Mike for a fixed fee of €5m (about N7.9bn), with the transfer subject to the player completing a medical.

The Belgian champions are understood to have moved ahead in the race for the highly rated youngster during the current summer transfer window. The agreement was reported by Sky Germany transfer-market expert Florian Plettenberg.

As part of the proposed deal, Bayern Munich will retain a sell-on clause, allowing the Bundesliga champions to benefit from any future transfer involving the forward.

Mike is expected to sign a three-year contract with Club Brugge, which would keep him at the Belgian club until the summer of 2029. The overall package could rise through additional add-ons, although the fixed portion of the fee has been set at €5m.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a notable season with Bayern Munich’s youth team, performances which helped earn him opportunities with the senior side. He made four Bundesliga appearances last season, featuring against Werder Bremen, Freiburg, Heidenheim and Wolfsburg.

His progress was interrupted by a hip injury during the final months of the campaign. Before that setback, however, his appearances for Bayern’s first team had helped draw attention from clubs around Europe.

Club Brugge’s interest in Mike was strengthened after they saw him in action during a UEFA Champions League fixture. That match marked the winger’s debut in the competition, although his involvement was limited.

Despite having only a short time on the pitch, Mike offered some promising signs late in the game. Bayern Munich went on to record a convincing 4-0 victory.

The Belgian champions are now reportedly close to completing the transfer, with the medical representing the remaining key step before the move can be finalised. If he passes, Mike will begin the next stage of his development in Belgium after breaking into Bayern Munich’s first-team set-up last season.

The agreement reflects Club Brugge’s decision to invest in a young player who has already gained experience at one of Europe’s leading clubs. For Bayern Munich, the retained sell-on clause provides the opportunity to remain financially involved should Mike’s career continue to develop and lead to a future move.
