Cucurella’s wife sparks intrigue with cryptic ‘only the real ones understand’ post

Marc Cucurella’s wife has attracted attention on social media after posting a mysterious message following the Real Madrid defender’s impressive display against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

The Spanish full-back played a key role in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory in El Clasico, producing a disciplined defensive performance that limited the threat posed by Lamine Yamal.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Cucurella was one of the main reasons behind Real Madrid’s success, as he repeatedly closed down the spaces in front of Yamal and made it difficult for the Barcelona forward to make progress down that side of the pitch.

Cucurella’s appearance in a Real Madrid shirt at Barcelona’s home ground provoked an angry response from some supporters. He was booed by sections of the crowd whenever he touched the ball.

His wife, Claudia Rodriguez, watched the match from the stands and celebrated her husband’s contribution and Real Madrid’s victory. She later shared several images from the aftermath of the game on Instagram, including a video call between the couple after the final whistle.

However, the post that generated the most interest showed a piece of clothing Cucurella had taken with him to Barcelona. Rodriguez described it as a personal lucky charm and captioned the image: “Only the real ones will understand.”

She offered no further explanation, although Rodriguez has previously revealed the story behind the item.

Rodriguez has said Cucurella is prone to pessimism, so she makes sure he takes one of his sleeping garments with him on away trips. She keeps her perfume on the clothing, allowing him to feel close to her even when they are apart.

This was not the first major tournament or away fixture in which Cucurella had relied on the same routine. He also took the item with him during the European Championship and the World Cup, and previously asked on social media whether it might be the secret behind his success.

The accompanying La Liga listings included Barcelona on 31 October 2026, while the schedule also listed Deportivo Alaves against Racing Santander in La Liga on 01 November 2026, with Real Madrid included in the fixture information.
