Daniel Akpeyi: I’m the solution to Super Eagles goalkeeping crisis

Nigeria goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi strongly believes that he was the solution to the problem being faced by the national team.

The South African-based save hands have not been invited to the Super Eagles fold since the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

He has been in superb form for South African side, Moroka Swallows this season.

The 37-year-old has made 10 appearances in the DStv Premiership, keeping four clean sheets, while conceding just six goals.

Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye have been under immense criticism recently due to their performance for the three-time African champions.

Uzoho behind the sticks has not been able to command any clean sheets as the team struggles for form.

Akpeyi stated that he is still good enough to play for the three-time African champions.

“I think I’m better than yesterday. Today is better than yesterday. It’s just that (I’m) waiting for the opportunity,” the shot-stopper told reporters ahead of Swallow’s clash with his former club Kaizer Chiefs.

Akpeyi played for Gabros International, Nasarawa United, Heartland FC, and Warri Wolves in Nigeria before joining Chippa United in South Africa.

He also played for Kaizer Chiefs before completing his switch to the Swallows.
