Mbachu Backs Super Falcons to Reclaim WAFCON Title, Urges Focus and Unity

Seven-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champion and Nigeria legend Stella Mbachu has expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s ability to reclaim the continental crown, urging the team to remain focused and approach the tournament one match at a time.

Speaking on The Super Falcons Show, the former Nigerian international said the Super Falcons have the quality, experience, squad depth and winning mentality needed to conquer Africa once again. She, however, stressed that their success will depend on maintaining discipline and concentrating on each game without looking too far ahead.

According to Mbachu, the pressure of representing Nigeria and meeting the expectations of millions of supporters should serve as motivation rather than a burden.

“The Super Falcons should take the game as it comes. They shouldn’t be looking too far ahead. Every match is important, and if they approach each one with the right mentality, the results will come,” she said.

The former winger, who played a key role during one of the most successful eras in African women’s football, noted that every team at the tournament will be eager to defeat Nigeria because of the Super Falcons’ reputation as the continent’s most successful side. She urged the players to respect every opponent while maintaining the confidence that has defined the team over the years.

Mbachu also praised the balance within the current squad, describing it as a blend of experienced players and promising young talents capable of delivering another WAFCON title. She emphasized that unity and commitment to the team’s collective goal will be crucial throughout the competition.

She identified team spirit as one of the key ingredients for success in major tournaments, encouraging the players to continue fighting for one another both on and off the pitch.

“This team has the talent to win the title. They just need to remain united, believe in themselves, and fight for one another. Nigerians should continue to stand behind them because the girls will make the country proud,” she added.

Mbachu also appealed to Nigerians to maintain their unwavering support throughout the tournament, insisting that encouragement from home can inspire the players to give their best whenever they step onto the field.

As Nigeria pursues another WAFCON title, the Super Falcons legend believes discipline, consistency, unity and a game-by-game approach will give the nine-time African champions the best chance of reclaiming continental glory.
