Felix Uduokhai set for Bundesliga return with Union Berlin
Besiktas defender Felix Uduokhai is reportedly close to joining Union Berlin, with the Germany-based club said to have reached an agreement over a move during the current summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old is understood to be seeking clarity over his future after attracting interest from a number of clubs. Uduokhai has one year remaining on his Besiktas contract, increasing uncertainty about whether he will continue with the Istanbul club beyond the current window.
Turkish pundit Yagız Sabuncuoglu reports that Uduokhai is nearing a return to the Bundesliga with Union Berlin. The proposed move would take the experienced defender back to German football after his spell with Besiktas.
Uduokhai initially joined Besiktas on loan for the 2024/2025 campaign before completing a permanent transfer to the club in 2025. Since then, his contract position has led to speculation that he could leave, despite having established experience at Besiktas Stadium.
Union Berlin are reportedly considering Uduokhai as an experienced addition to their defensive options. The German club are looking to improve on their performances from last season and see the defender’s background in the Bundesliga as a potential advantage.
Born in Germany and representing Nigeria, Uduokhai has already played for Augsburg and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. His previous experience of the competition could help him adapt quickly should the move to Union Berlin be completed.
With only a few days remaining before the current summer transfer window closes, Uduokhai’s next step is expected to become clearer soon. A transfer to Union Berlin would give him the opportunity to continue his career in Germany while also bringing an end to the uncertainty surrounding his future at Besiktas.
The reported agreement comes as Besiktas assess their options regarding a player who has only one year left on his current deal. If the move goes through, Uduokhai would return to the Bundesliga after his earlier spells with Augsburg and Wolfsburg, having spent the intervening period with Besiktas.
His reported switch to Union Berlin would also reunite him with German football at a time when the club are seeking greater defensive strength. However, the transfer remains subject to completion before the summer window closes.
For Uduokhai, the priority will be to settle his future quickly. After joining Besiktas permanently in 2025 following a successful loan campaign, he now appears close to securing another move, with Union Berlin reportedly positioned to take him back to the Bundesliga.
