Finidi George criticises Rangers International after Rivers United draw

Rivers United coach Finidi George said Rangers International had no reason to complain after the sides drew 1-1 in their NPFL match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Chijioke Mbaoma put Rivers United ahead in the 17th minute, before Godwin Obaje levelled for Rangers International eight minutes after half-time.

The result kept Rivers United at the top of the table on goal difference, with Rangers International in second place.

Finidi was dissatisfied with the way Rangers handled the closing stages of the match, according to Complete Sports. He also highlighted instances of Rangers players going down late in the game.

“Rangers International got a draw and they should not complain,” Finidi said.

The draw maintains the tightly packed nature of the NPFL title race. Complete Sports reported that four clubs shared top spot in its matchday 11 roundup, while three teams had been level on 17 points in the build-up to this fixture.

Rivers United remain ahead only because of their superior goal difference, leaving little between the leading sides. Rangers International’s point at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium means they remain directly behind Rivers United as the competition continues.

The closeness at the top also means the next round of fixtures could bring further changes. Rivers United and Rangers International will both be monitoring each other’s results.
