Francis Uzoho: Nigeria goalkeeper joins Omonia 29th May on free transfer

Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has joined Cypriot club Omonia 29th May on a free transfer from Omonia Nicosia.

The 27-year-old has signed a contract running until 31 May 2027, completing a move between two clubs in the Cyprus League on 29 August 2026.

Uzoho leaves Omonia Nicosia after five years with the club, having initially joined from APOEL Nicosia in September 2021, also on a free transfer. During his time at Omonia, he was part of a side that won the Cypriot Cup in 2022 and 2023 before adding the Cypriot championship in the 2025-26 season.

The goalkeeper began his senior career in Spain with Deportivo La Coruna, joining the club from its youth system in 2018. He spent time on loan at Elche and Anorthosis before moving to APOEL in 2020 for a reported €250,000 fee. His earlier development included a spell with Aspire Football Dreams and a move from Campos Football Academy in Nigeria.

Standing at 1.96m, Uzoho has also achieved success with Nigeria at international level. He was part of the Nigeria Under-17 team that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2013 and later helped the senior national side finish as Africa Cup of Nations runners-up in 2023-24.

His move provides Omonia 29th May with an experienced goalkeeper who has spent much of his professional career in Cyprus and has previously won domestic honours in the country. Omonia Nicosia were Uzoho’s second Cypriot club, following his loan spell at Anorthosis during the 2018-19 season.

The transfer was completed without a fee, and Uzoho is contracted to Omonia 29th May until 31 May 2027.
