Frankfurt land Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika in €9m deal
Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika has joined Frankfurt from Club Brugge in a €9m transfer, moving to the Bundesliga after three seasons in Belgium.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder completed the switch on 2 August 2026 and has signed a contract with the German club running until 30 June 2031. He will wear the number 25 shirt at Frankfurt.
Onyedika leaves Club Brugge after helping the Belgian side win the league title in 2023-24 and 2025-26. He also won the Belgian Cup in 2025 and the Belgian Super Cup during the 2025-26 campaign.
The move to Frankfurt continues a career that began in Denmark. Onyedika joined Midtjylland’s youth set-up from Nigerian club FC Ebedei in 2019 before progressing into the first-team squad. He later spent part of the 2020-21 season on loan at FC Fredericia.
He joined Club Brugge from Midtjylland in August 2022 for €9.5m and established himself in Belgian football before securing his move to Germany. His latest transfer comes with his market value recorded at €23m.
Onyedika is a right-footed midfielder who stands 1.84m tall and is listed primarily as a defensive midfielder. His arrival gives Frankfurt a player with experience of domestic competition in both Denmark and Belgium, as well as a record of winning major honours with Club Brugge.
The Nigerian’s honours also include the Danish Cup with Midtjylland in 2022, following an earlier Danish Youth Championship with the club’s under-19 side in 2021. He was also a Danish league runner-up with Midtjylland in 2022.
Onyedika’s move from Club Brugge to Frankfurt is now complete, with his new contract running until June 2031.
