Gift Monday joins Boston Legacy FC in 0,000 move from Washington Spirit

Super Falcons striker Gift Monday has joined Major League Soccer, MLS, club Boston Legacy FC on a permanent deal from Washington Spirit worth $500,000.

The 24-year-old Nigerian forward made 48 regular-season appearances for Washington Spirit, scoring 12 goals and supplying three assists.

Monday leaves after setting an NWSL record in September 2025, when she scored the fastest hat-trick from kick-off in the league’s history. She scored three times in 35 minutes and 52 seconds against the Houston Dash.

The forward is currently with Nigeria on international duty for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying fixture against Comoros, but said she was pleased to begin the next stage of her club career.

“I’m very happy and honored to be here today as I officially join this wonderful club,” Monday told Boston Legacy FC’s official website.

Boston Legacy confident in Monday’s impact

Boston Legacy FC general manager Dome Guasch believes Monday will add important qualities to the club’s attack.

“Gift brings a unique set of qualities as a forward that will add another dimension to our attack. She will contribute to our high press, create opportunities and be dangerous in the final third. She’s also a team player, and that matters to us as much as her quality on the pitch,” Guasch said.

Monday began her professional career in Spain with UD Tenerife, making more than 65 appearances and producing 26 goal contributions across nearly 4,500 minutes of action.

Before moving to Spain, she played for Nigerian clubs FC Robo and COD United Amazons. Those spells provided the foundation for her progress into professional football.

She made her senior debut for the Nigeria women’s national team in 2019 and was later selected for the country’s 23-player squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Her move to Boston Legacy FC is the latest step in a career that has taken her from Nigeria to Spain and the United States. Monday will now look to build on her achievements in the United States while continuing to contribute to the Super Falcons.
