Hamburg sporting director Costa expects Moffi to make Bundesliga impact
Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa believes Terem Moffi can make a significant contribution after completing his permanent move to the Bundesliga club from OGC Nice.
The Nigeria international joined Hamburg on Monday, strengthening the German side’s attacking options ahead of the new Bundesliga season. The 27-year-old arrives with experience of playing in six different countries and an established record in front of goal.
Moffi has scored 88 goals and supplied 13 assists in 228 competitive club appearances throughout his career. He has also represented Nigeria 23 times, scoring six goals and providing two assists for the national team.
Costa is convinced the striker has the attributes needed to trouble Bundesliga defences and quickly establish himself as an important player for Hamburg. The sporting director highlighted Moffi’s physical strength, speed and finishing ability, saying those qualities will make him a difficult opponent for defenders to handle.
“We are delighted to have secured the signing of Terem. Terem is a striker who is difficult to contain due to his physicality, determination, and playing style,” Costa told Hamburg’s official website.
“He is capable of making runs in behind the defense, has a tremendous presence in the penalty area, and possesses the necessary quality with his back to goal.
“We are convinced that Terem will add extra firepower to our game and thus further enhance the versatility of our squad. Now, the task is to integrate him quickly so that we can start the new Bundesliga season as a team with plenty of energy and confidence.”
Moffi’s arrival gives Hamburg another experienced attacking option as they prepare for the demands of the Bundesliga campaign. Costa believes the forward’s combination of power, movement and penalty-area presence will add variety to the team’s play.
The sporting director also stressed the importance of settling Moffi into the squad as soon as possible. Hamburg want the Nigeria international to become part of the team quickly so they can begin the season with energy and confidence.
Moffi previously played for OGC Nice in Ligue 1 before sealing his move to Germany. His career has taken him across six countries, while his club scoring record underlines the attacking threat Costa expects him to bring to Hamburg.
The striker’s international experience is another part of his profile, with six goals and two assists from 23 appearances for Nigeria.
Costa’s comments follow confirmation of Moffi’s transfer on Monday, with Hamburg adding the forward as they look to increase their firepower in attack.
