Harry Kane commits to Bayern Munich until 2029 with Champions League success in sight

Harry Kane says he wants to win the Champions League with Bayern Munich after extending his contract with the German club until 2029.

The England striker spoke at a news conference in Munich on Thursday after the new deal was officially announced, saying he had no hesitation about remaining at Bayern and had complete confidence in the club’s sporting plans.

“I did not need to think about it for very long. I am in the best place I could imagine,” Kane said, in comments reported by Marca. “We signed the contract yesterday, but the decision had been made a long time ago. We did not want to talk about it because of the World Cup, and when we came back there were only a few details left to complete.”

He added: “I know I am at a great club and that we are fighting for the Champions League and every trophy. For me, it is important to be somewhere I can continue to develop and compete for everything.”

Kane said his belief in Bayern’s ability to challenge for major honours was central to his decision.

“It was easy for me. If I did not believe in the team, or in our ability to win the biggest trophies, I would have looked at other options,” he said.

“I feel better than ever. In the coming years we will certainly be playing at the highest level. I am very happy here, I know where the team is heading and I believe in the project. I never had any doubts.”

The Champions League remains a particular ambition for the 33-year-old.

“The Champions League is a major objective for everyone. As long as I feel we are fighting for it, I am excited by the opportunity to achieve it,” Kane said.

“We want to dominate in Germany, but we also want to win the Champions League. I will be here until 2029, and I would be lying if I said I did not want to win at least one Champions League by then. It is pressure, but I deal with it enthusiastically.”

Kane also said he was enjoying life in Munich after spending many years in the Premier League.

“It is good to change the environment. Munich is a wonderful place,” he said, adding that he and his family enjoyed visiting forests and mountains, while his eldest daughter liked horse riding. The family had also made new friends and experienced a different culture.

“Later in life, I will look back and say that leaving my comfort zone was the right and positive step,” he said.

On his German, Kane said: “I hope to learn more in the next three years than I have in the previous years. I understand more than I used to, but I am still learning. Now I need to speak more and worry less about mistakes.”

Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen said Kane had earned his new contract through his influence on and off the pitch.

“He is the engine of the team, makes his team-mates better and is also a role model away from sport,” Dreesen said. “If the best player in the world receives a first-class contract, that makes sense. We want to be economically strong and act wisely, but we also want the best team and to win.”
