Former Nigeria international Mikel Obi has made his pick for the Ballon d’Or, naming Manchester City’s and Spain’s Rodri as the best player in the world.
Speaking on his ObiOne Podcast, the former Chelsea midfielder lauded Rodri’s exceptional performances, especially highlighting his pivotal role at Euro 2024.
Rodri has been a standout name in this year’s Ballon d’Or discussion, alongside other notable contenders like Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé.
The 28-year-old midfielder was instrumental in Spain’s flawless Euro 2024 campaign, leading them to a record fourth European Championship title by defeating England in the final.
In addition to his Euro 2024 success, Rodri played a key role in Manchester City’s historic achievement of securing a fourth consecutive Premier League title under Pep Guardiola.
His contributions earned him the Player of the Tournament accolade at Euro 2024.
Mikel Obi expressed his strong belief in Rodri’s excellence, stating, “The best player I think for me, in my opinion, in the world now is Rodri,” during his podcast.
