Inter Milan agree €7.5m deal to sell Nigeria midfielder Akinsanmiro to Monza

Inter Milan have agreed to sell Nigeria international Ebenezer Akinsanmiro to Monza in a permanent deal worth around €7.5m, with the Serie A champions retaining a sell-on clause.

The agreement, reached during the current summer transfer window, will see the midfielder leave San Siro for Monza ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, subject to the final formalities being completed between the clubs.

Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the deal includes a 10% sell-on clause in favour of Inter, meaning the Nerazzurri will be entitled to a portion of any future transfer fee if Monza decide to sell Akinsanmiro on.

The fee, valued at about €7.5m, is roughly equivalent to N12bn in Nigerian currency.

Inter move on from emerging midfielder

Akinsanmiro joined Inter Milan from Nigeria National League (NNL) side Remo Stars and has been regarded as one of the more promising young midfielders to emerge from the club’s recent recruitment in Africa.

The 2025-26 season proved a breakthrough campaign for the 20-year-old, who impressed on loan at Pisa. During that spell he became one of the standout young players at the club, convincing observers with his blend of physical strength, technical skill and calmness in possession.

His performances in Serie B underlined his maturity in central midfield and sparked questions over whether Inter might seek to integrate him into their first-team squad on a long-term basis.

However, Pisa chose not to trigger the option to buy that had been included in the original loan agreement, leaving Inter to consider alternative solutions for his future at the end of the campaign.

International recognition for Super Eagles prospect

Akinsanmiro’s rise at club level has been mirrored by his progress on the international stage.

His displays in Italy drew the attention of the Super Eagles technical crew, with head coach Eric Chelle rewarding the youngster with his senior Nigeria debut in a friendly against Egypt in the build-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

That appearance confirmed his elevation to full international status and further highlighted his growing reputation within Nigerian football.

Opportunity for regular football at Monza

Monza view Akinsanmiro as a reinforcement for their midfield options as they prepare for the 2026-27 season, with the club aiming to consolidate their status in Serie A.

The move is expected to offer the Nigerian the chance to secure consistent first-team football at a top-flight Italian club, something that was not guaranteed at Inter given the depth of Simone Inzaghi’s squad.

For Akinsanmiro, the transfer represents the next step in his development, providing him with a platform to continue his progression in Italian football while maintaining a link to Inter through the sell-on clause embedded in the agreement.
