Juventus defender names Nigerian star as toughest opponent faced

By Monsurah Olatunji

Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu has named Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the toughest opponent he has faced in Serie A, citing the Nigerian’s physicality and movement as major challenges to defend against.

Kalulu, who spent time at AC Milan before joining Juventus, has faced Osimhen multiple times on the pitch, particularly during Milan’s encounters with Napoli.

Despite having played against some of the biggest names in football, the French defender highlighted Osimhen’s explosive play and intelligent positioning as a unique test for any defender.

“It was Osimhen, no doubt,” Kalulu remarked when asked about the toughest striker he has had to mark in Serie A during his appearance on Juventus’ newly inaugurated podcast, Small Talk.

Osimhen has been a key figure in Napoli’s recent successes, including their historic 2022/23 Serie A title win, where he finished as the league’s top scorer. His dynamic style of play, which combines power, speed, and precise positioning, has made him one of Europe’s most coveted forwards.

His rising stock has led to heavy speculation linking him with top European clubs, further solidifying his status as one of the most dangerous strikers in the world.

For Kalulu, facing Osimhen remains a reminder of the formidable opponents in Italy’s top tier, recounting the forward’s reputation as a constant threat in Serie A.
