Kogi United unveils Gilbert Opana as new technical adviser

By Wale Mustapha

Kogi United has appointed Gilbert Opana as the club’s new Technical Adviser, unveiling him at a brief ceremony in Lokoja on Tuesday.

The announcement was made by the club’s Chairman, Abdulmalik Isah, who praised Opana for his extensive experience and impressive track record with various clubs in the Nigerian football scene.

Isah tasked the new coach with using his expertise to help the team return to its former glory.

“We are confident that Gilbert Opana’s experience, discipline, and resilience will be key in ensuring that Kogi United makes a swift return to the top levels of Nigerian football,” Isah stated.

Opana, who previously coached Jigawa Golden Stars, expressed his excitement about taking the reins at Kogi United.

He promised to deliver positive results and quality football, calling on stakeholders in the state to support him in his mission.

Opana will be assisted by coaches Mohammed Yusuf, Abdulazeez Adeiza, and Taiye Ojo as he looks to lead the team back to the Nigeria National League (NNL) after narrowly missing promotion last season.

The Nationwide League One (NLO) season kicks off in April, marking the beginning of Kogi United’s push for promotion.
