Mbappe reaches 100 Champions League goal contributions as Messi remains out in front

Kylian Mbappe marked his 100th Champions League goal contribution as Real Madrid beat AEK Athens in the league phase on Wednesday.
The France forward scored Real Madrid’s second goal in the 78th minute at Agia Sophia, converting a low cross from Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries into an unguarded net.
According to Opta, the goal took Mbappe’s Champions League total to 100 contributions, comprising 74 goals and 26 assists.
The 27-year-old has reached the landmark in 102 appearances, making him the joint-second fastest player to achieve it in the competition. He shares that distinction with Robert Lewandowski, the Poland striker who previously played for Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Only Lionel Messi has reached 100 Champions League goal contributions more quickly. The Argentina great achieved the feat after 101 matches.
Mbappe’s goal also extended his scoring run in the competition to six consecutive matches.
That equals the longest Champions League scoring sequence of his career, matching a run he produced with former club Paris Saint-Germain between November 2021 and September 2022.
