Moses Sesay: English-Nigerian midfielder joins Colchester United on loan
English-Nigerian midfielder Moses Sesay has joined Colchester United from Southampton Under-21s on loan until 31 May 2027.
The 19-year-old central midfielder completed the move on 21 August 2026, switching from Southampton’s Premier League 2 side to Colchester, who play in League Two.
Sesay, who is left-footed, has yet to feature in the National League Cup this season, with no appearances recorded before his move to Essex. His loan gives him the opportunity to continue his progress in the senior game after spending the previous campaign with Southampton Under-21s.
He moved into Southampton’s Under-21 set-up from the club’s Under-18s on 1 July 2025. Before joining Southampton, Sesay was part of the Chelsea youth system, leaving Stamford Bridge for Southampton Under-18s on a free transfer in July 2023.
The transfer represents Sesay’s third club move since entering academy football at Southampton and Chelsea. His immediate future is now with Colchester, while the agreement includes a return to Southampton Under-21s at its conclusion on 31 May 2027.
Sesay’s arrival gives Colchester an additional option in central midfield as they begin the 2026-27 campaign. His previous experience has come within the academy and development structures at Chelsea and Southampton, with the loan marking his move into League Two football.
The England- and Nigeria-qualified player joins Colchester with his Southampton pathway continuing after the temporary switch. He remains contracted to Southampton Under-21s beyond the end of the loan, with the transfer history recording his return to the club when the agreement expires.
Colchester have therefore secured Sesay’s services for the 2026-27 season, with the midfielder joining from Southampton Under-21s on a loan deal completed on 21 August 2026.
