Plymouth Argyle injury update: Owen Oseni still weeks away from return
Plymouth Argyle manager Tom Cleverley says Nigeria international Owen Oseni is still likely to be a couple of weeks away from returning as the club prepare to face Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
The forward has not featured in Plymouth’s first two competitive matches of the 2026/2027 campaign, against Exeter City and Stockport, after suffering an injury.
Oseni was an important player for Argyle last season, contributing seven goals and five assists in 27 league appearances. His continued absence is therefore a significant setback for Cleverley’s side as they search for their first victory of the new campaign.
Cleverley provided an update on a number of players ahead of the league meeting with Wycombe, confirming that Caleb Watts is set to return to the squad.
“Positive news is Caleb Watts will be back in the squad,” Cleverley said via Plymouth Herald. “Jack MacKenzie is close, should be available to select against Bradford.”
Jack MacKenzie is not expected to be ready for Saturday’s game, although Cleverley indicated that the defender should be available for selection when Plymouth play Bradford.
The Plymouth manager also explained that Oseni and Freddie Issaka remain some distance from a return to first-team action, while Michael Baidoo is facing a longer spell on the sidelines.
“Owen Oseni and Freddie Issaka another week closer – probably a couple of weeks off for those two guys. Michael Baidoo is the long-term absence.”
Cleverley’s comments mean Oseni is unlikely to be involved against Wycombe, extending the period in which Plymouth must cope without one of their most productive attacking players from last season.
The Nigeria forward enjoyed an excellent campaign in the previous season and will now be focused on completing his recovery before returning to the squad. Plymouth will hope his eventual comeback can provide an attacking boost as they aim to move on from their difficult start to the 2026/2027 campaign.
For now, Cleverley will have to plan without both Oseni and Issaka, while also monitoring the progress of MacKenzie before the match against Wycombe Wanderers. Watts’ return provides some encouragement, but Baidoo’s long-term absence remains another concern for the manager.
Plymouth’s immediate priority is to secure their first win of the season, but Oseni’s recovery timeline suggests the club may have to wait before their influential forward is available again.
