Musa’s Brilliance Propels CSKA Moscow to Champions League Qualification; Igboun Ends Goal Drought

Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa played a pivotal role in securing CSKA Moscow’s place in the UEFA Champions League next season. Musa’s goal contributed to CSKA Moscow’s 2-1 victory against Anzhi on the final day of the Russian Premier League season.

The Nigerian international, who returned to CSKA Moscow on loan from Leicester City in January, opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Despite a brief setback with Anzhi equalizing through Arsen Khubulov in the 33rd minute, CSKA Moscow regained the lead with a decisive goal from Vitinho in the 61st minute.

CSKA Moscow’s triumph secured them the second spot in the league table with 58 points, earning them automatic qualification to the prestigious UEFA Champions League. Lokomotiv Moscow was crowned league champions despite a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal Tula on the same day.

Musa’s impressive goal-scoring form continued with seven goals in 10 league appearances for CSKA Moscow. The victory not only secured Champions League qualification for CSKA Moscow but also showcased Musa’s significant impact on the team since his return to the Russian club.

In addition to Musa’s success, Nigerian forward Sylvester Igboun ended a seven-game goal drought by scoring for FC Ufa in their 5-0 home win against Tosno on the final day of the Russian Premier League season. Igboun scored on 50 minutes, contributing to Ufa’s sixth-place finish and securing a Europa League qualification slot. The Nigerian ended the season with seven goals in 26 league appearances.

Meanwhile, in the relegation battle, Super Eagles defender Bryan Idowu featured for Amkar Perm in a 0-0 home draw against 10-man FK Akhmat. Following the draw, Amkar will now face one of the two teams from the National Football League (second-tier) in the Russian promotion/relegation play-off tie.
