Nigeria 2-0 Puerto Rico: Flamingos revive World Cup knockout hopes

Nigeria revived their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a 2-0 win over Puerto Rico in Morocco.

The Flamingos secured their first points in Group B after recovering from their opening 2-1 defeat by Poland. The result keeps their campaign on course ahead of their final group match.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi put Nigeria in front in the 25th minute at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat. The forward’s goal gave Akeem Busari’s side a 1-0 lead at half-time and broke the deadlock in a match Nigeria needed to win.

Puerto Rico were unable to find a response after the interval, while Nigeria held on to their advantage as they pushed for their first victory of the tournament.

Precious Oscar confirmed the result by scoring in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, completing a 2-0 win for the Flamingos.

The victory provides an important response to Nigeria’s disappointing opening result against Poland and gives them three points as they continue their bid to qualify for the knockout stage.

Busari’s team will finish their Group B campaign against defending champions Korea DPR on Friday, October 23.

That match will bring another significant test for Nigeria as they attempt to secure a place in the next round of the competition.
