Iheanacho scores in 11th straight league game as Bursaspor chase top spot

Kelechi Iheanacho extended his scoring streak to 11 consecutive league matches by finding the net in Bursaspor’s 2–0 win over Pendikspor, keeping the Turkish club within one point of the Trendyol 1. Lig summit.

The Nigeria international struck in the 62nd minute on Monday, October 19, to double Bursaspor’s lead at the Ataturk Spor Kompleksi Matlı Stadium. Halil Akbunar had put the hosts in front after 10 minutes.

Iheanacho has now scored in each of Bursaspor’s last 11 league fixtures. His latest goal has been reported as extending the record for consecutive scoring appearances in Turkish football.

The former Leicester City and Celtic striker joined Bursaspor in July and has quickly become an important part of the side’s attack. His regular contributions have helped the club remain in contention near the top of the table as the season has progressed.

The victory lifted Bursaspor to 25 points, although they remain second behind Kayserispor, who have 26. The one-point difference leaves little room for dropped points in the battle for the leading positions.

Iheanacho’s form has provided Bursaspor with a dependable source of goals, but the club will need him to maintain that level as opponents attempt to limit his influence. His continued output will be important if Bursaspor are to convert their recent momentum into a sustained promotion challenge.

The forward has also returned to the Super Eagles picture after featuring in Nigeria’s October international friendly against Russia. Iheanacho scored in that match, which ended in a 3–3 draw.

His latest club performance underlines the attacking threat he can offer Nigeria, although form for Bursaspor alone does not guarantee future selection for the national team.

For now, Bursaspor’s priority is to stay close to Kayserispor and preserve their position among the leading teams in the Trendyol 1. Lig.

After scoring in 11 successive league appearances, Iheanacho has made consistency the defining feature of his spell in Turkey. His next opportunity will be to continue that run while helping Bursaspor maintain their push for promotion.
