By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria senior women’s national team forward, Gift Monday believes her side is not under pressure to earn their first win over 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts, Australia on Thursday.
The Super Falcons and the Matildas will set alight the Lang Park in Brisbane in one of the most-anticipated clashes of the group stage at this ninth edition of the global finals.
While the West African nation are making her ninth appearance at the the global showpiece, the UDG Tenerife forward is up for her maiden outing should she get to feature against the co-hosts.
With Nigeria the only African flag-bearer yet to taste defeat, the former Robo Queens star reflected on her side’s 0-0 draw against Canada and is eager to make her first bout against the Aussies.
“The team is not under any pressure because we know who we are, we are the Super Falcons,” Monday told NigeriaFootball
“I’m feeling happy and positive, it’s a dream come true for me.” she continued. “Watching from the bench is educating and I learnt a lot.
“I think we did all we could in that game against Canada which gave us that result but I also know that we can do better. Just like the rest of my teammates, ready to give my best for the team.
“It’s my first senior Women’s World Cup, so I’m not only eager but just patiently waiting to be given my chance when it’s necessary,” she concluded.
