Australia defender Tameka Yallop expects competitive match against Nigeria
By Wale Mustapha
Australia defender Tameka Yallop has warned her team to be wary of a determined Nigerian side when both face off in the second group B tie of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Th won their first match by a slender margin against Ireland and will be aiming for their second victory against the Super Falcons will give them a passage to the knockout stage.
Nigeria will need to build on their impressive opening day draw against Canada and work towards avoiding defeat against the co-host nation if they want to stay further in the tournament.
Yallop was part of the Aussies side that  defeated Nigeria 2-0 at the 2015 edition but she expects a different, aggressive and determined Randy Waldrum’s side in Brisbane, urging her colleagues to stick to plans and ward off any potential threats against the nine-time African champions.
“We’ve done a lot of training together, so I think we just need to stick to our process, our game plan, our tactics,” Yallop told media.
“They’re going to be physical and fast – we’ve prepared for it and [need to] make sure we stick to our game.
“There’s an unpredictability to them, which makes it a little bit difficult, but we’ve trained for that in our prep. It’s about being focused in every moment against them.”
