By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian striker Ndifreke Effiong, has completed a sensational return to the Iraqi League, signing with Newroz Sports Club in a move that promises to rejuvenate his international career.

The 26-year-old forward, who previously enjoyed successful spells with Al-Naft SC and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in the Middle East, has now ended his time with Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United.

Effiong’s impressive performances in the NPFL, where he netted four goals and provided one assist in 14 league appearances for Rivers United, caught the eye of Newroz SC.

After passing a mandatory medical examination, the towering striker was officially unveiled by the club.

“I’m excited to start this new chapter of my career with Newroz SC,” Effiong said following his unveiling.

“The Iraqi League has always been close to my heart, and I am eager to prove myself once again at this level.

“I’ve had great experiences in the Middle East before, and I believe this move will help me take my game to even greater heights.”

Effiong’s growing reputation as a clinical finisher was clearly evident during his time with Akwa United, where he played a pivotal role in their 2021 NPFL championship-winning campaign.

Reflecting on this success, he added, “Winning the title with Akwa United was a memorable moment, but now I am fully focused on achieving new goals here at Newroz SC.”

As he embarks on this new adventure, Effiong will be aiming to make a strong impact in the Iraqi League and further elevate his career.

“I am here to help the team achieve success, and I will give my all on the pitch,” he stated confidently.
