NPFL MD 28 Review: Rangers maintain top position as five-star Enyimba crush Kano Pilars

Enugu Rangers and Enyimba FC are tied on points at the top of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table at the end of Matchday 28 games on Wednesday.

The Flying Antelope defeated Sunshine Stars 2-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium as goals from Kalu Nweke and Onyebuchi Ifeanyi in either half lifted the host to a victory.

In Aba, Enyimba FC put five unreplied goal past visiting Kano Pillars as Ekwutoziam Eze, Chijioke Mbaome, and Joseph Atule gave the People’s Elephants a three goal lead at halftime before they increased the lead to five thanks to strikes by Atule and Balogun Muyiwa.

Lobi Stars moved to the third position, a point above Remo Stars which played out a 0-0 draw with Gombe United on Tuesday. Makurdi based side played out a 1-1 in Lagos against Sporting Lagos as Junior Lokosa’s goal was canceled out by Tiza Iorwuese’s equaliser.

Samson Obi’s goal for Abia Warriors separated them from Plateau United which remained in the fifth position with 44 points.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars Sports Club continued their recent impressive form with a 2-0 win over Kwara United courtesy of two second half goals from Monday Gideon and Yusuf Abiodun Adewale.

Benin City witnessed one of two away wins of the day as Niger Tornadoes secured a 3-1 victory against Bendel Insurance with first half goals from Ernest Chidiebere, Azeez Akintunde, and Jephta Clinton. Chukwudi Meze pulled a goal back for the Benin Gunners but it wasn’s enough to prevent a home loss.

Doma United also recorded a 1-0 away win over Akwa United in Uyo courtesy of Emmanuel Jesam’s goal in the seventh minute.

In Yenegoa, Bayelsa United compounded Heartland FC’s releations woes as Fabby Clark’s last gasp goal in the additional minutes of the second half propeled the host to a win.

Enugu Rangers, Enyimba FC, Lobi Stars, and Remo Stars occupy the top four postions on the log while Bayelsa United, Akwa United, Gome United, and Heartland FC sits in the bottom four positiona on the table.
