NPFL: Salisu Yusuf regrets first defeat with Nasarawa United

By Wale Mustapha

Nasarawa United head coach, Salisu Yusuf, expressed disappointment after his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Kwara United in their Matchday 31 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash on Wednesday.

The Solid Miners, who were on an eight-game unbeaten run under Yusuf, were undone by a 64th-minute strike from Lawal Abayomi in Ilorin, ending their impressive streak.

Yusuf admitted his team was unfortunate to lose the match and felt they deserved more from the encounter.

“The boys did well and gave the opponents a good match today, even though we should have won this game,” he said after the match.

This marked Yusuf’s first loss since taking over as head coach of Nasarawa United. Despite the setback, the former Super Eagles coach praised his players’ potential and vowed to focus on the positives.

“I have been using the available players to prosecute the remainder of the games. They have good potential, I must say,” Yusuf stated.

The coach is determined to regroup and strengthen the team ahead of their next home fixtures.

“We are choosing to focus on the positives of today’s game and use this as an opportunity to regroup and come back stronger in our next two home games,” Yusuf added.

Nasarawa United will host Akwa United in their next NPFL fixture on April 6, 2025.
