NWFL: Remo Stars’ Ghanaian Charlotte Adjei revels in Team’s strong start after draw at Edo Queens

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Remo Stars Ladies goalkeeper, Charlotte Adjei has been a key part of the team’s good start to the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

The Ghanaian save hands have been behind the sticks as the Ikenne-based side won two of their first three league games before playing out a 1-1 draw with defending champions Edo Queens on Wednesday.

The former Ampem Darkoa goalie reflects on the hard-fought 1-1 draw with the Benin Arsenals, which kept their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

“Getting a draw in Edo was a very, very good performance because we all know that Edo Queens is the defending champions in the Nigeria league, so going to their home for the draw was not easy. It takes hard work and determination for that performance,” She told Nigeriafootball.ng

“I feel so excited to be part of Remo Star Ladies FC. It is a privilege to be part of that because I love and like the team very well.”

Ahead of the season, the reigning Ogun State FA Cup champions won the Sheroes Cup, a pre-season tournament in Abuja.

With previous winners of the Sheroes Cup like Delta Queens, Bayelsa Queens, and Edo going on to win the league title, the former Rivers Angels goalkeeper also has similar dreams while acknowledging coach Wemimo Mathew’s confidence in her.

“Pre-season Sheroes Cup helped us a lot to sharpen our team and know ourselves well and work as a team.

“Well, the coach’s confidence in me is 💯% because we work hard in the training ground, and anything they teach us, we make sure to give it out.

“My wish with my team, Remo Star Ladies, is that we will make sure that we will go to Super Six, then when we get there, we will win the league.” She concluded.

Adjei’s experience of playing in the 2021 and 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League with Rivers Angels (Nigeria) and Ampem Darkoa (Ghana) is paying off with the Sky Blue Stars as they aim to qualify for the season-ending NWFL Premiership Super Six Playoffs with the chance of winning the league title.
