Hamburger SV have announced the signing of centre-back Jordan Torunarigha on a free transfer from Belgian top-flight club KAA Gent.
The 27-year-old completed his medical on June 11 at the UKE Athleticum before putting pen to paper at the Volksparkstadion.
A Berlin native and product of Hertha BSC’s academy, Torunarigha returns to German football after making 145 appearances for Gent in both domestic and European competitions.
He previously played 73 Bundesliga matches for Hertha BSC.
Claus Costa, HSV Director of Football said: “Jordan became a key player in Gent. We’ve tracked his progress closely and are pleased he’s chosen to take the next step with HSV.”
Stefan Kuntz, HSV Board Member for Sport asserted: “Jordan is mature, defensively strong, and fits our profile. I know his qualities well from the U21s and Olympics.”
Internationally, Torunarigha has featured 30 times for Germany’s youth teams and made one senior appearance for Nigeria.
Known for his composure, physicality, and ability to play out from the back, he is expected to be a key figure in HSV’s defense moving forward.
For Torunarigha, he was full of excitement to have joined another German side. “I’m excited to return to the Bundesliga and join a club with HSV’s tradition. I want to bring my experience and help us achieve our goals this season.”
