Nigeria forward Olanrewaju Kayode expressed his delight at a promising start to his Shakhtar Donetsk career, scoring in the club’s commanding 3-0 away win against Zorya in a Ukrainian top-flight clash on Sunday. Kayode, who entered the game in the 91st minute as a substitute for Facundo Ferreyra, found the net in the 93rd minute, contributing to Shakhtar’s resounding victory.
Reflecting on his debut, Kayode conveyed his happiness, stating, “I’m very happy, the game was impressive! I appeared at the end of the match, so within a few minutes I spent on the field, I couldn’t quite influence the developments.” He continued, “Of course, I’m happy that I managed to score a goal, that the team won – that’s essential for me. My family came, I scored the last goal, that’s definitely a sign. In a word, it’s been a great day.”
Kayode, who recently joined Shakhtar on loan from English Premier League leaders Manchester City, had previously been on loan at Spanish LaLiga club Girona. Frustrated by a lack of playing time, the move to Shakhtar has provided a fresh start for the former Nigeria junior international.
The goal-scoring debut showcases Kayode’s potential impact and adds depth to Shakhtar’s attacking options. As the team pursues success in the Ukrainian top flight, Kayode’s contribution is poised to play a crucial role in their quest for silverware.
